Nancy M. Martini

Artist member since 2023
Burlington, ON

Hello! I’m Nancy Martini, a self-taught artist living in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

Painting colourful expressive works is my passion and I love bringing that beauty and happiness to your home. You would be right to guess I am painting any evening and weekend that I can squeeze in the time, otherwise my three kids keep me very busy, as do my full-time finance career and part-time teaching class of management accounting to university students. People often get surprised to know that my home studio painting sessions last from 15 minutes (most common) to two hours (at my luckiest) where I’m creating something feminine and soft through mixing signature pastel palettes.

My work is most recognized as pretty florals and birch trees. However, I do also enjoy creating canvases with fragrance bottles, animals and women - always including some of those pretty florals.

It makes me very happy that you have landed here and I do hope you enjoy what you see.

Q+A

Favourite book

I can't possibly pick just one, I'm an avid reader. However, "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier was a favourite since Grade 9 when it was assinged to us. It was with that book I learned people are much deeper than they appear and everyone has their own story, feelings and interpretations of what they see. It immediately taught me to be kind before judging anyone.

Favourite movie

Endless Love. The Breakfast Club. Dirty Dancing. It's an 80's thing.

Coffees per day and from where

Two. The first is the best and I drink it while it's hot, then the second I nurse and microwave to heat it up and still don't finish. From where? I like to make my own aaaaand, I love instant coffee. My fave and don't judge. Anyone I make coffee for always says, it's great!

What kind of artwork do you have in your home?

Store-bought :( My kids love my art, and they love me, and their bedrooms each have some of my pieces. I can recognize that not everyone loves the same art, and my husband just doesn't love florals or pastels. So my art doesn't hang anywhere else in the home. Instead, it hangs in 250+ homes of my wonderful collectors :).

When I'm not making art, I'm (a) ...

Mom of three. Mom to a puppy. Sister, daughter. I work as a full-time Director of Finance. I work part-time teaching Management Accounting for McMaster University. I love binge-watching reality shows on Netflix and Prime.

Favourite medium

Acrylic paints. I have been asked if my paintings are made with oils because the texture is so thick and bumpy. That's because I usually paint with 5-7 layers of thick creamy acrylics. I just love that they dry so quickly.
